Split Attractions

Split's centre is a Roman palace that was never demolished, only lived in. The cathedral of St Domnius occupies Diocletian's own mausoleum, the bell tower beside it is the climb everyone makes, and the substructures underneath run the full footprint of the seaward half. Outside the walls the city adds Marjan, the wooded hill with the chapels and the viewpoints, the Mestrovic Gallery on the way up, and the Grgur Ninski statue at the Golden Gate. Roman Salona at Solin and the fortress at Klis are both short trips inland.
